Dempsey welcomes award of contract for Integrated Ticketing Scheme

Minister Noel Dempsey TD today welcomed the news that the Railway Procurement Agency has awarded the contract to operate the Integrated Ticketing Scheme to Hewlett-Packard Ireland.

Speaking this afternoon, Minister Dempsey said: "This is a significant step in the delivery of this project. The award of this important contract will provide for the delivery of a number of key services necessary for Integrated Ticketing to work effectively. These services include the provision of a smart card point of sale network so passengers can buy and top-up smartcards in more than 400 shops and retail outlets across Dublin. Hewlett Packard will be responsible for customer support services, such as providing a telephone support helpdesk and providing an Integrated Ticketing Scheme website."

The Integrated Ticketing Scheme is undergoing rigorous testing this year prior to a phased roll out on Dublin Bus and Luas services. Private bus operators are also participating in the scheme and it is anticipated that a number of these operators, along with DART and commuter rail services and Bus Éireann on a pilot basis, will join the scheme throughout 2011.

Minister Dempsey concluded: "Integrated ticketing will revolutionise the way public transport in Ireland operates. It will deliver real and tangible benefits to customers and I am pleased to welcome the award of this contract today. Integrated ticketing remains on target to be rolled-out on a progressive basis this year and that will mean real change for passengers. "
