| CILT welcomes Dublin City Bus Gate |
|
Press Release: 20 May 2009
CILT welcomes Dublin City Bus Gate CILT welcomes the decision by Dublin City Council to approve the Bus Gate Scheme for College Green. In our submission regarding the Bus Gate we made the following 4 points: 1. The CILTI believes that the proposed “Gate” project should go ahead during the summer of 2009. 2. The CILTI feel that the improvements in bus speeds and timetable accuracy will be achieved by this proposal, and as a consequence the number of people travelling to the city centre by bus could rise, thus improving journeys for commuters and also increasing retail footfall. 3. The CILTI believe that delaying the “Gate” project until the coming into service of the Macken Street Bridge while benefiting some cross city traffic will play a relatively small part in the total traffic management of Dublin. It should not delay the “gate” project and its importance for public transport projects. 4. The CILTI concludes that the public and business interests in the city need to be convinced of the positives of the “Gate” and such convincing would be easier and more believable if graphic based dynamic modelling animations were made available to demonstrate the improvements likely to be obtained. The Institute recommends that such animations be made available.
