Our Role

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is the professional body in Ireland for people in the logistics, transport and supply chain industry. 

  • We have 400 members and three regional sections. 
  • CILT Ireland is a territory of the wider CILT International organisation which has 33,000 members globally working in over 43 countries.
  • We are a member of the European Logistics Association.
  • The institute’s key remit is to promote professionalism and enhance standards in the logistics, transport and supply chain sector through the provision of education and services.

Structure of CILT

Education and Training Committee

  • Advances professionalism in the logistics and transport industry by promoting the development of education and training.  
  • Oversees the provision by, or on behalf of, the Institute of educational programmes leading to professional qualifications.
  • Co-coordinates and oversees the training and educational activities of CILT. This includes the management and quality-assurance of exams CILT run on behalf of government departments and public bodies.
  • Develops new educational programmes either on its own or in collaboration with other bodies which are in line with industry, national and EU requirements.
  • Promotes the continuing professional development of members.

Business Development Committee

  • Co-ordinates the business plans for the Institute.
  • Oversees the work of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and its section committees in organising and promoting a range of events for current and prospective members which are tailored to the objectives of the institute.
  • Manages the implementation of an effective marketing programme to promote the institute to its own members, public and private bodies and the general public.

Membership Development Committee

  • Assesses applications for CILT membership and recommends to the Council, based on established guidelines, the level of membership to be offered to each applicant.
  • Works to increase membership and ensure the  Institute in Ireland is well represented in all segments of the logistics, transport and supply chain industry.
  • Represents the interests of members on a continual basis.  

Audit Committee

Ensures CILT trustees, members of the Council, the Management Committee, Standing Committees, Section Committees, other working groups and members are conducting the business of the Institute in accordance with the Deed of Trust and the rules appended thereto, the governance handbook and governance best practice.
