Championing Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLaT) Ireland

Event Report: Women in Logistics and Transport – In-Person Event

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland (CILT Ireland) hosted its first in-person Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) event, and it was an outstanding success. The event brought together industry professionals for an inspiring morning filled with insightful discussions, valuable networking opportunities, and plenty of laughter.

Keynote Address
The event commenced with an engaging keynote speech by Fiona Brady, who highlighted the crucial role of workplace culture in professional success. Her powerful statement, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast," resonated deeply with attendees and set the tone for a thought-provoking discussion on fostering inclusive and supportive work environments.

Panel Discussion
A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring esteemed panellists Nicole Quadrelli, Denise Bartolo CMILT, and Kay Doyle. These accomplished professionals shared their experiences working in traditionally male-dominated industries and offered valuable insights into career progression. They also reflected on lessons learned through hindsight, providing attendees with practical advice on navigating professional challenges.

Pamela Quinn expertly chaired the discussion, steering the conversation towards essential themes such as gender diversity and what it truly means to cultivate an inclusive workplace. Her thought-provoking questions encouraged meaningful dialogue and self-reflection among both the panellists and attendees.

Leadership Development Workshop
WiLAT Ireland Chair, Rabia Mirza, led an impactful leadership development workshop on the often daunting topic of "how to have difficult conversations." This session equipped attendees with practical strategies for managing workplace conflicts effectively, empowering them to handle challenging discussions with confidence and professionalism.

Encouraging Female Leadership
A significant takeaway from the event was the encouragement for female leaders to embrace speaking opportunities. Many of the contributors were first-time panellists, stepping out of their comfort zones to share their expertise and experiences. The message was clear—women in logistics and transport should seize opportunities to speak up and make their voices heard.

Looking Ahead
The event was a testament to the power of community and professional support in advancing women’s roles in the logistics and transport industry. For those interested in speaking or sponsoring future events, opportunities are available to get involved.
